TearStop works by using fleece to absorb, store and release significant quantities of moisture when condensation would normally occur. When the temperature of a metal roof drops belowthe dew point, the TearStop fleece will absorb and store thecondensing water vapor. The absorbed water will evaporate again into the ambient air under appropriate temperature and ventilation conditions.
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION DETAILS
Eave conditions should be installed per Alphamac’s recommende installation to include inside closures and sealant tape to minimize water wicking up the panel.End lap conditions should be installed per Alphamac’s recommended installation to include a minimum 12” end lap.End lap sealant should be used to minimize water wicking into the end lap.
Valley condition should be installed per Alphamac’s recommended installation to include solid decking under the valley flashing and Peal and Stick underlayment going up 18” on both sides of the valley. Valley flashing for TearStop projects should be 12” on both sides of the valley. Sealer strip with sealant tape to minimize water wicking up the panel is also recommended.
The use of powerwashers are not recommended, too much pressure could damage the fibers. The use of a standard garden hose with pressure direct from the hose bib is recommended.
When using TearStop, a properly ventilated building is still important. TearStop helps smooth out drying cycles but buildings should still utilize good ventilation practices.
Flashings do not normally require application of TearStop, however, roof panels should run as tight to ridge as possible to minimize the interior exposure of ridge caps that do not have TearStop applied.
TearStop is made from durable polyester materials designed to last the life of the metal panels; a wide variety of testing and in-place projects confirms the product’s durability.
TearStop has flame retardency properties which include a Class I flame retardant per A2.
Moisture will not affect the metal panels and the micro fibers of TearStop do not support mold growth.
TearStop has a 20-year no delamination warranty.
Wet stack storage still applies to panels with TearStop applied.
Please store properly by covering and tilting one end. It’s always best if they can be stored inside if not being immediately installed.
